Do you know who is really behind that business card?

The decision to purchase a new roof is a frightening event for many people. And rightly so.

Dozens of companies trying to win your business will line up at your door, all claiming to be the best, the most reliable, the cheapest, offering incentives anywhere from raffle tickets to exotic dinners. But when all is said and done, all that glitters isn't gold.

What you really want is a solidly built, waterproof, attractive roof that adds distinction to your home or business, built by a reliable company who will be in business years down the road when it's time to re-new your warranty...and yes, you want this for the best possible price.

So how do you decide?

Here are a few shocking truths worth considering as you start collecting business cards and estimates:

Beware of New Roofing Contractors

Roofing Schools do not teach "how to roof". Shocking, but true.

Just because a roofer is "state licensed" does not mean they know how to properly install roofing materials or properly mount a roof defense against a Florida climate. Roofing Schools teach new roofers the basics of running an office, how to estimate materials, the legalities of defending themselves against lawsuits and state codes and requirements. There is not even one day spent teaching how to properly install roofing materials.

When you hire new contractors, the actual "beauty" of your roof may be in the hands of a person who is planning to get their "hands-on" experience at your expense!

50% of New Businesses will Fail...and then your Warranty would too...

The Small Business Administration says that 50% of new companies will fail within their first 5 years. If the roofing contractor you choose is one of those 50% failures, you would be left without a workmanship warranty.

Remember, your warranty is only as good as the company that stands behind it, and the best materials in the world cannot do their job if they are installed improperly. If a "new roofing company" goes out of business (a common occurrence within the first 5 years) your warranty is worthless.

Out of Town Companies

The risk of an out of town company being "out of town" when it comes time to honor their warranty is just as risky as with a new roofing company still even being in business. Ask any of the thousands of Hurricane Katrina victims who are still trying to get their warranties honored from companies who "blew in" with the weather.

Roofing has become "Vogue"

Since the economic down turn, there has been a flood of new roofers getting their license. Many failed home builders have decided to try their hand at roofing the last couple of years...and unfortunately, it shows.

Roofing is an art. An unattractive roof can make or break the aesthetics of a home because your roof takes up almost 50% of the total exterior. This is why it is critical you choose the right contractor for your roofing needs. When you choose Excel, you can feel confident that your new roof will not only look gorgeous but will also stand the test of time. Just like we have!
